Mindless: A Seven Week Laboratory of the Unknown

A seven-week journey of self-inquiry through contemplative practices, performance, and shared experience, facilitated by Hesam Salehbeig.

100% of all donated ticket proceeds will be donated to support services for people experiencing homelessness in Chicago.

Mindless is a 7 week program designed to help cultivate wisdom, equanimity, and transformation on the path of liberation. It aims to nurture both an inspiring companion beside you and a steady center within you as you move through life.

This program has no traditional teacher or instructor. Instead, it is a curated journey—woven from established practices and texts drawn from both Eastern and Western traditions—guided by the performer/facilitator who has designed and collected the materials. The fundamental idea is that each individual is their own path and the real teacher is one’s own life. The work is informed in part by Cheleh Neshini (چله نشینی), a Sufi practice of sustained wakefulness.

The intention of Mindless is to offer a variety of techniques, allowing each participant to discover and work with those that best meet their current needs and life situations. The group meets each time for 90 minutes. Yet, the real work begins after each session: participants receive a specific instruction or practice to integrate into their daily lives over the following week.

In this way, the program extends far beyond the weekly meetings. Each session concludes with an instruction, and the days between meetings become a living laboratory, where practice merges with ordinary experience. At the next gathering, participants share their reflections, challenges, and insights, allowing wisdom to emerge through lived experience rather than abstract discussion.

In light of the recent displacement affecting members of our Logan Square community, the facilitator has chosen to donate all proceeds from this seven-week workshop to Red Line Service in support of outreach and services for people experiencing homelessness.

This program is rooted in mutual care rather than fixed pricing. Please choose a registration amount that reflects your financial circumstances. No one turned away for lack of funds.
