Comfort Music: Weatherbreaker & Jesalva + McDonald

Weatherbreather is the electronic music trio of Deidre Huckabay, Nick Meryhew, and Ryan Zerna. Using a combination of traditional keyboard synthesizers and EWIs (Electronic Wind Instruments), the group explores and expands relationships between breath, electricity, body, and sound. Deidre, Nick, and Ryan draw on diverse backgrounds in improvisation, performance art, noise, and "new" music.

Beth McDonald is a classically trained tuba player gone awry. She performs mainly as an improviser, using the tuba acoustically and with electronic effects pedals.
Beth’s current musical projects include Three Grebes (Franki Hand, Ike Turner), Edition Redux (Ken Vandermark, Lily Finnegan, Erez Dessel), and Where Were We (Erez Dessel, Tyler Damon). She is also collaborating with weaver Katie Vota on an upcoming body of work including tapestry weavings, sound installations, and improvised performances.
Beth is a regular in Chicago’s improvised music scene, including recent performances with musicians such as Riley Leitch, Emily Rach Beisel, Jeb Bishop, Chris Corsano, Zander Raymond, Tim Daisy, Lia Kohl, Mabel Kwan, Nick Meryhew, and Macie Stewart.

Caroline Jesalva (b. 2000) is a Chicago-based musician, improviser, multidisciplinary artist, and curator. She studied music at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, MA where she developed a practice centered on contemporary, improvised and experimental music composition and performance. Her music continually concerns the experimentation and intermingling of violin and vox, finding an expressive home in many disciplines, including experimental theater, songwriting, puppetry, performance art, classical music, and free jazz. Her self-led projects include the experimental-art-rock quartet 20/20 Plastic, and two solo projects for violin and voice: ‘out of context’ and ‘rotations around the sun’. A nomadic performer, Caroline can be seen improvising with music collective BananaAcid, exploring the performance of the body with Katinka Kleijn, violining in the pit for puppets with Manual Cinema, creating ambient improvisations with Sarah Clausen, singing and fiddling with Janelle Finton’s Joygarden, and more.
