Native Plant Q&A with Ellen Bunch of More Organics
What are native plants?
They are plants that have been growing in a region for thousands of years and have a symbiotic relationships with the ecosystem. One part of living sustainably is to garden with natives. Once established, natives often need very little to succeed, as long as they are placed properly. This means using less water, as well as avoiding the need to fertilize.
How are native plants beneficial?
Natives exist to support local life, encouraging a happy ecosystem. All parts interact together in a complex web to sustain a physical environment. This includes plants, trees, shrubs, microbes, fungi, and bacteria, along with bugs in various stages of development, birds, small mammals, and large mammals.
