Comfort Station is pleased to bring back our native plant sale for a third year! Comfort Station will once again offer pre-made kits to usher in the spring season and help raise money for the organization’s upcoming year of arts programming. Pre-sale ordering runs from May 1st to May 31st, or while supplies last. All pickups will take place on June 8th 12-4pm, at Comfort Station.
This is one of the only spring plant sales in Chicago focusing exclusively on native plant species, and is a great way for Chicagoans to start to transform their yards this summer!
Experienced gardeners, returning customers, and new enthusiasts can take advantage of a unique assortment of locally sourced native plant varieties, organized into pre-made “kits” that are perfect for a variety of garden beds or containers. With four options, these kits focus on specific conditions and needs that your garden may have:
Full Sun Pollinator Garden
Partial Shade Pollinator Garden
Full Shade Pollinator Garden
Full Sun/Partial Shade Rain Garden
Please note: In the event that any individual plant in a kit is not able to be fulfilled by our grower, we will make substitutions with another plant that is as similar as possible to the original.
Pre-sale kits this year will be 30-40 square feet each and priced at $110 each. All proceeds will benefit Comfort Station’s upcoming season of free public programming, including art exhibitions, concerts, film screenings, and other community gatherings that feature local artists and are free and open to the public.
We’re excited to offer an additional option for gardeners this year interested in expanding beyond the kits: half-flats (19 plant plugs) for select options, priced at $100 each:
Purple Cone Flower (Echinacea purpurea)
Wild Bergamot, aka Bee Balm, (Monarda fistulosa)
Wild Columbine (Aquilegia canadensis)
Aromatic Aster (Symphyotrichum oblongifolium)
Showy Goldenrod (Solidago speciosa)
Black-eyed Susan: (Rudbeckia hirta)
Common Oak Sedge (Carex pensylvanica)
Swamp Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata)
If you are unable to pick up your plant kits on June 8th you can email us with the name of a friend or family member who will be picking it up in your name! The seedlings are compactly arranged in containers approximately 15" x 25". We recommend bringing a large tote bag or box to nestle them in for easy carrying or loading in your car.
Additionally, on Sunday, May 19, Ellen Bunch of More Organics will lead a native plants workshop on the lawn of Comfort Station where there will be a limited selection of individual plants available for sale. Click here for details!
