SCAFFOLD presents: The Grass Ceiling, performance by Becs Epstein & Vince Phan

This performance acts as an activation of the space. Throughout the month, viewers are encouraged to visit the site to write their own apologies.

The Grass Ceiling is an durational installation within the scaffold structures at Comfort Station. It is a commentary on American obsession with lawns and its impacts on native plant, insect species and the environment. Utilizing the current lawn at Comfort Station and using SCAFFOLD for a pulley system to raise the grass bed aka the ceiling off the ground, the installation aims to creates new space for plant native and bee-friendly plant seeds to grow. Through the month of July, two artists, Vince Phan and Becs Epstein, will take care of the seeds and plants planted in the soil in which the grass ceiling is removed. On July 08, they will host a performance in which Becs will apologize to past and current plant species at the lawn of Comfort Station. The apologies will be written on a flag that will be displayed at the scaffold throughout the month of July and viewers can write their own apologies on the flag.
