Handle with Care: What We Carry is an experimental, time-based performance that extends the exhibition Handle with Care through liveness. Bringing together sound, moving image, the body, and everyday packing materials, the work invites audiences into a shared sensory experience where migration, memory, care, and material unfold collectively.

Before a space can be rebuilt, it is first dismantled, wrapped, and carried. Packing unfolds as a quiet choreography where memory, urgency, and material intertwine, each layer holding traces of movement and absence.

Handle with Care focuses on the act of packing as both a practical necessity and an embodied ritual shaped by migration. Every move reorganizes the body and the environment, reconstructing memory through touch, sound, and repetition. Packing can be rushed or careful, forced or filled with anticipation, revealing the emotional conditions of each transition.

Working with cardboard and shipping materials, the exhibition draws attention to familiar gestures of packing: oversized boxes filled with bubble wrap, clothing repurposed as cushioning, and plastic rope tightly securing fragile contents. These ordinary actions recur throughout the space as a quiet choreography, inviting viewers to encounter packing not as spectacle but as a shared, everyday practice. As gestures are repeated, suspended, and isolated, they reveal the playfulness, politics, and temporality embedded within the act of packing, transforming Comfort Station into a temporary site of transition where memory remains in motion.

Sage (Shu Tzu) Lin 林書慈 is a Taiwanese non-binary artist and director born in New Taipei, Taiwan, and based in Chicago. Working across moving image, sound, light, shadow, sculpture, and performance, their practice reconstructs time and memory through immigration and cross-cultural identity. Their work examines how language, sensory environments, and everyday materials construct experiences of home, belonging, and embodied memory. Originally trained as an animator, Sage extends the logic of animation beyond the screen into tactile installations using cardboard, found objects, fiber, and the body, creating participatory environments where viewers become active collaborators in the ongoing construction of memory, perception, and place.

Sage’s work has been exhibited, performed, and screened in Taiwan, the United States, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Hong Kong, Ireland, and Russia. They hold a BFA in Animation from Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA), Taiwan, and an MFA in Film, Video, New Media, and Animation from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), United States.
