Our Native Native Plant Sale is back

Comfort Station is pleased to bring back our native plant sale for a second year! Due to the success of last year’s inaugural event, Comfort Station will once again offer pre-made kits to usher in the spring season and help raise money for the organization’s upcoming year of arts programming. Pre-sale ordering runs from May 1st to May 31st, or while supplies last.  Kits are larger this year and we are including two exciting new options- a Full Sun Medicinal/Herbal Garden and a Full Shade Garden in addition to three best-selling kits from last year. All pickups will take place on June 4th, location to be announced. This is one of the only spring plant sales in Chicago focusing exclusively on native plant species, and is a great way for Chicagoans to start to transform their yards this summer!

Experienced gardeners, returning customers, and new enthusiasts can take advantage of a unique assortment of locally sourced native plant varieties, organized into pre-made “kits” that are perfect for a variety of garden beds or containers.  With five options, these kits  focus on specific conditions and needs that your garden may have:

  • Full Sun Pollinator Garden

  • Partial Shade Pollinator Garden

  • Full Sun/Partial Shade Rain Garden

  • Full Shade Pollinator Garden

  • Full Sun Medicinal/Herbal Garden

Additionally, on Sunday, May 21st, Jeremy Ohmes of Wild World Gardens will lead a native plants workshop on the lawn of Comfort Station where there will be a limited selection of individual plants available for sale. On Sunday, May 28th, Vanessa Oniboni and Pophana Brandes of Mycelium Permaculture & Co-Design will lead an interactive workshop on utilizing rain gardening in an urban context entitled:  Re-centering Water.

Pre-sale kits this year will be larger, at 40 & 30 square feet and priced between $100-$110. All proceeds will benefit Comfort Station’s upcoming season of free public programming, including art exhibitions, concerts, film screenings, and other community gatherings that feature local artists and are free and open to the public.
