2023 Call for Volunteers
Comfort Station is looking to bring in new talents, voices, and skills into our team in 2023 as we continue to grow our programming in the Logan Square community!
When we bring volunteers in our collective operation our goal is not just to fill a specific need, rather, we want to be a place where each person’s interests and ambitions can be supported by working with us. We are especially interested in programmers who have experience or potential for expanding spanish-language events at Comfort Station and otherwise broadening our engagement with the Latinx community around us.
Since we first started informal programming in our building in 2011, we have operated with an evolving and somewhat de-centralized collective of volunteer programmers and administrators to take on various roles and duties. We’re always absorbing new folks who have the capacity to help us with the many moving parts that make up Comfort Station. Our organization today is predominantly run by people who responded to past calls like this, so this is not simply a call for help with random tasks, it’s an invitation to help define what Comfort Station is and what we do on a deeper level.
We are specifically looking to bring on new volunteers in these roles:
Film programmers as part of our Wednesday night Comfort Film program
Music programmers as part of our Thursday night Comfort Music program
Marketing coordinator
Social Engagement programming assistants
Exhibitions social media manager
Exhibitions event planner (overseeing opening receptions and special events)
Exhibitions PR
Comfort Station has traditionally been volunteer-run, but we also recognize that an all volunteer-model is inherently inequitable. While much of the labor that currently goes into running our programming remains unpaid, we have been steadily expanding our fundraising capacity in order to offer honoraria to the members of our organization. Each of the above positions may include an honorarium based on the need of individuals, the amount of work taken on over the course of the year, and our capacity to do so. It’s our intention for this call to reach like-minded folks interested in the work we do-- if that’s you, but there are financial barriers to you being able to do this primarily as a volunteer (including costs of transportation), please reach out to us!
Applications will be accepted until March 15th, interviews will be scheduled in late March, and the work will begin in April as our programming season kicks into full swing!
Those interested in joining us can fill out this simple form below and we’ll reach out to schedule interviews. Any questions can be directed to info@comfortstationlogansquare.org.
We’re hosting a Q & A session Monday February 27th at 7pm, access through Google Meet here.
