November 8th: big TEEN fest & Annie Burns

A slew of big TEEN bands take over Comfort Station for a daunting 25 minute festival.  Attentions spans will be dissipated. Cell phones will be thrown away.  Disney™ Stars will have trouble drawing the mouse ears logo.  And then Annie will slay.

November 29th: Wind-Up Elephant

Wind-Up Elephant comes out from New York to perform the Midwestern premiere of Jenna Lyle's Carrie & Robert play an Eb [for toy instruments], a work exploring extremely limited sonic materials presented for an extended duration, magnifying the gestural byproducts of instrumental practice. This piece could not be more perfect for the ringy, oversaturated, beautiful hard-surfaced box that is Comfort Station. It runs for about 30 minutes. Pretty much one note the whole time (but with HARMONICS WASSUPPPP).

Wind-Up Elephant is the dynamic toy instrument duo comprising pianist Robert Fleitz and violist Carrie Frey on toy pianos, toy viola, melodica, recorder, and various percussion objects. Combining theatricality, improvisation, electronics, vocalization and various extended techniques, the duo brings whimsical fierceness to programs of newly commissioned works by intrepid young composers as well as original pieces and improvisations by the duo themselves. By performing high-quality new works with this idiosyncratic instrumentation, Wind-Up Elephant aims to expand the audience for new work while also bringing a sense of verve and daring to the concert experience.
