About the record, Cyrus says:
"I feel like there is always this question, 'Why make this record?' This time around, I'd have to say the answer is: to connect with people. As a composer, I come up with songs all the time. As a performer, those songs get put out there to do the work of searching for community. For this record, I feel like I have been able to focus this process. I did the majority of the writing and recording in practice sessions I filmed and shared daily on my youtube channel so my 8K+ subscribers could follow along. I used a recording setup that sent slightly different signals to the left and right channels so it seems like the sound is dancing back and forth between them, heightening the intimacy of the sound. I used the amplifier I designed and built to produce a certain kind of distortion. A distortion that is insistent and shakes loose complacent ears. And I composed pieces each of which feel like they could be lived in. They are pieces that are for people and about people. I feel like this is the music we need in this moment."
"And then there is the guitar. Ultimately, these are another set of songs borne out of my long term relationship with the instrument going on 30+ years now. The electric guitar I play with its 9 strings and special electronics, is one I designed to shred, but also to shred in a sensitive way where putting more energy in disperses it instead of concentrating it has been the path has been the greatest lesson I've learned and continue to learn from it so far. I look forward to the next 30 years."
