Carol Genetti is a Chicago-based vocalist whose work encompasses sound and visual art media. Her palette is primordial, existing in a space where “language” and “music” have yet to be formulated into familiar cultural patterns. Genetti’s aesthetic is one of raw power, yet also delicate and subtle. She likes to combine various devices with her vocal performance as she “refracts and abrades her wordless vocals with electronics” (Bill Meyer, The Wire). She has performed with many improvising musicians, including Jack Wright, Eric Leonardson, Peter Maunu, Olivia Block and many others. Most recent recordings include a duet with Claire Rousay "Live at Elastic Arts" (Astral Spirits) and a collaborative release with visual artist Gwyneth Zeleny Anderson “Chyme" (Suppedaneum).
Chad M. Clark is a Chicago-based guitarist. Immersed in the instrument’s physical properties, his palette is a measure of size, encompassing both finite and infinite magnitudes. From the narrow rasps of strings stretched taut to the creaking breath of the wood itself, the ways in which particular vibrational phenomena contour the subjective experience of time and space permeates Clark’s practice.
The Good-By Number is a free improvisation trio Hannah Bureau (violin) Bekah Dotzel (cello) and Ethan T. Parcell (drums and clarinets). The Good-By Number plays improvised chamber music equally in touch with Chicago’s robust free jazz tradition and sounds and concepts from contemporary composition. The trio has a rigorously rehearsed approach to repetition and orchestration and self released their first studio recording in August 2024.
