Ashley King is a musician and scholar of gender, sexuality, and religion who teaches at Northwestern University. She will be presenting a piece of music called "Marine Lover" that explores the viscosity of transfeminine embodiment. "Marine Lover" evokes amorous encounters on the seabed and the pressure of oceanic depths through layers of electric guitar and tape decks. Ashley was born in a landlocked state, but she has seen the inside of a bathysphere. Now she lives near some Mennonites in south Evanston.
