Making Rituals is a personal and collective inquiry into modern ritual with interdisciplinary artist and facilitator A.Martinez. This series of community workshops, or “study groups”, was created with the intention of gathering together to spark conversation around our lives and reframing ritual as essential to our survival and connection to the world—for ourselves, for our children, for our ancestors, for our planet.
The format is as such: host A.Martinez interviews a guest artist whose work relates to the theme, and facilitates a discussion with the group, then they lead a related activity with the group to further explore the theme further. The theme for the November and December events is How to Speak to the Dead.
On December 18th, A.Martinez welcomes director, artist, dancer, and producer Robyn Mineko Williams as guest artist.

Robyn Mineko Williams is a director, artist, dancer and producer. She works and creates within the lanes and intersections of performance, dance, design, culture, and place. She is the founder and director of Robyn Mineko Williams and Artists (RMW&A) and has received commissions from Pacific Northwest Ballet, Royal New Zealand Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and Malpaso Dance Company among others. Robyn has been in residence at Baryshnikov Arts Center and is a 2023 Artist-in Residence at the Chicago Cultural Center. Named one of “25 to Watch” by Dance Magazine in 2014, she is a 2023 Dysart Award winner and Princess Grace Foundation-USA Fellowship grant recipient. In tandem with her creations for the stage, Robyn works as a creative director and movement consultant on an array of projects including immersive experiences, film, installation, pop-up performances and music videos. A.Martinez (host/facilitator, she/her) is a poet, visual artist, mother, and organizer living in Chicago. Alyssa’s work is a practice of noticing, learning, and remembering. Rooted in the everyday, her work aims to be a, perhaps anxious, attempt to not forget the moments and important stories we carry as inhabitants of this Earth. Her work explores family, rituals, nature, and the body. Alyssa’s social practice involves participatory community gatherings including those for mothers in the arts.
