Chicago artists Eric Fuertes and Taylor Hokanson will host a live aluminum pour at Comfort Station on Saturday, November 5th, from 10am to 4pm. Attendees will receive a blank 6” x 6” tile mold or “scratch block” in which they can carve a shallow relief – no experience, safety gear, minimum age, or special tools required. Over the course of the event, molds will be filled with molten metal, left to cool, and ready to take home about an hour or two after they are poured. A limited number of scratch blocks are available, so come early if you want to make sure to get one!
In the event of inclement weather, this event may be pushed to Sunday, November 6th. Donations on the day of the pour to help defray material costs (~$20) are encouraged by not required. If you are an experienced metal artist who would like to bring your own mold, reach out to Taylor Hokanson (thokanson@colum.edu) and we’ll try to get your piece on the line.
This project is financially supported by Comfort Station, Columbia College Chicago, and an in-kind donation by the United Erie chemical company.
