Chicago Democratic Socialists of America presents group discussion on big ideas in the movement to dismantle capitalism. Socialist Night School is for everybody, from seasoned organizers to folks newly curious about socialism.
This time, join us for a discussion on the purpose of pop culture in capitalism.
What are blockbusters for? Do they necessarily reflect the political climate of their time? Is there a possibility for a different kind of mass culture, reflecting the social needs and desires of exploited and oppressed people?
This session of Socialist Night School will include guided discussions inspired by two short readings and clips from mainstream movies. Find recommended readings here: https://bit.ly/SNSPOPTEXT
DSA is the largest socialist organization in the United States. The Chicago chapter is volunteer-run and member-driven, organizing campaigns to empower the working class. We believe our government and economy should operate, through social ownership, for the benefit of all.
