Ethereal_interface Presents: dream_logs A visual album on VHS

  • Comfort Station Logan Square 2579 North Milwaukee Avenue Chicago, IL, 60647 United States (map)

On February 6th, 2021, Orlando-based electronic label, Circuit Church, released dream_logs by ethereal_interface, a collaborative audiovisual project by Chicago video artist and poet Sky Goodman and Orlando electronic musician Modal_Plane (Will Randall).

dream_logs is a labor of love that grew out of two people having fun creating with each other who also have a shared passion for audio and visual modular synthesis, modified electronics, wavy music, and Glitch Art. Goodman (who is a video artist and poet) began the collaboration by sending video art to Randall, who then created sonically as a reaction to the video, doing away with the classical notion that video is supposed to accompany a song like a traditional music video. After multiple years of sending these creative reactions back and forth, the resulting visual album dream_logs was born as a deeply interwoven collaboration where both artists bring their perspectives and skills together in a 58 min. audiovisual journey. The project features other glitch artists, databenders, creative coders, and dancers on several of the tracks, including dance by local Chicago artists Fer Lawrence and Cristal Sabbagh.

Due to restrictions from the pandemic dream_logs has never been presented as a full screening until now.

Join us Wed. August 4th to see dream_logs presented in full, a 58 min journey of analog visuals, dance, poetry and sound.

Notes and praise for Dream_Logs:

“Install ‘dream_logs' in your gallery, on your wall, TV or computer screen, install this anywhere you can just be as it is something you don’t know that you need. Inventive and reinventive, this video washes over the synapses with sublime sensuality and grabs hold of the soul. The sonic synthesis mixes with hypnotic visuals to transport us to a different time and space—the experience nothing short of enlightening. Unfolding like flower petals, each section of the video is replete with orgiastic ecstasy delighting in digital decadence that paints our senses with the divine. It’s love and awareness, vulnerable and dark, and all together uplifting. When it was over, I was fully aware I didn’t want to come up for air, and desired to dive back into the electronic ether created by Sara Goodman and William Randall aka ‘ethereal_interface.’”
