P.M. Tummala’s solo works explore identity and memory to create an imaginary aural companion to Indian Modernism and Indo-Futurism.  With an assembly that can include synthesizer, tape, vibraphone, harmonium, and sampler, he reimagines the Hindustani, Carnatic, and Tollywood/Bollywood sounds of his youth through a blurred lens of Western musical influences that span spiritual jazz, new age, dub, ambient music, and hip-hop/vinyl culture.

Forest Management is John Daniel (b.1989 in Hemet, CA), an American musician currently living in Chicago, Illinois. The project was slowly conceived in 2011 in Daniel’s hometown of Westlake, Ohio. His 2015 debut full-length record Encounter was described as “a dusty, cinematic haze of wilted symphonics” (Decoder Magazine) and “deliberate and luxurious” (Hearfeel). In 2018, the nine-track odyssey 21st Century Man emerged after collecting dust on a dying and noisy laptop, an album prompted by a move to the Uptown neighborhood in Chicago. Marc Masters considered the record “Forest Management’s deepest work so far, a monument of rising and decaying sound that resists categories and evokes infinities.” Daniel has also collaborated with ambient artists Celer and David Tagg, and curates the labels Afterhours Ltd., Sequel and Reserve Matinee.

“John Daniel is a fixture in Chicago, IL’s thriving experimental underground. Releasing records across a variety of formats on stalwart labels such as No Rent, Constellation Tatsu, Unifactor, Polar Seas Recordings, Perfect Wave, etc… Daniel’s work has been regarded highly by the likes of Pitchfork’s The Out Door, FACT Magazine, Consequence of Sound and was recently featured by Ryley Walker as notable Chicago artist in MOJO magazine along with Circuit des Yeux, Natural Information Society and ONO.“ - Whited Sepulchre Records (‘Passageways’ press release)

Gather is an experimental music series bringing musicians from different scenes, backgrounds, practices, disciplines, and communities together for connection and artistic exchange. We curate this series with our attention toward introducing musicians who may not otherwise cross paths and whose works dialogue in compelling ways. By doing so, we hope to leave potential for collaboration and familiarity amongst different experimental music forms in Chicago. Gather is curated by Allen Moore, Nick Meryhew, and Rebecca Himelstein
