Comfort Music presents a rare triple bill, featuring Sfyria Trio, Andrew Clinkman, and Ron Shalom’s ‘Minivan.’
Sfyria Trio is a free-improvising band comprised of Sam Decker on saxophone, Charlie Kirchen on bass, and Matt Carroll on drums. The group constructs music out of fragmentary melodic motifs and the wide timbral affordances of each instrument, resulting in moody, delicately textured improvisations that navigate a variety of sonic worlds.
Andrew Clinkman is a Chicago based guitarist whose work primarily centers around experimental and improvised music. In addition to solo guitar work and many ad hoc collaborations, he is an active member of several bands including Marker led by composer and saxophonist Ken Vandermark, and weirdo pop group Spirits Having Fun. His most recent release is a solo guitar recording, The Joy Of Cooking, released in January 2015 by Lake Paradise Records. He has been a co-curator of the Option series at Experimental Sound Studio in Chicago since June 2015 along with Ken Vandermark and Tim Daisy.
Minivan is Ron Shalom’s solo electropop project featuring lights, disintegrating drag, and instructional dance. The debut album, CreepySexyCool, is out now and touring Winter and Spring 2019.
