Lykanthea is the project of Lakshmi Ramgopal, a multidisciplinary artist based in New York and Chicago. Trained in Carnatic music and Bharatanatyam dance, Ramgopal experiments with both through contemporary pop idioms, ensemble performances, and sound installations. Her electro-ambient debut EP Migration won praise from Noisey, Chicago Tribune, and Public Radio International's The World, and led to a European tour and appearances at Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art and the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. Ramgopal's forthcoming EP, titled Some Viscera, explores the genre of the lullaby and the song of birds by departing from her synthy past to embrace the warmth of the sruti box and string ensembles. She is joined at Comfort Station by violinist Johanna Brock and cellist Erica Miller.
Nivedita Gunturi is a Chicago-based Carnatic vocalist who will open the evening with traditional Telugu and Sanskrit devotionals.
